Tanzania is located on the eastern coast of Africa and is home to Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Its population of approximately 52 million is the most linguistically diverse in East Africa with more than 100 distinct languages, though its official languages are Swahili and English. Tanzania is considered one of the poorest countries in Africa in terms of per capita income but has been experiencing considerable growth in recent years as a result of vast natural resources and increased tourism. The economy depends on agriculture, which accounts for more than one-quarter of GDP, provides 85% of exports, and employs about 80% of the work force. ICO has partnered with Tanzanian communities to help empower farmers and alleviate poverty.
