Community Power: Growing Food Security Together is a community driven umbrella initiative, with a goal to enhance food security in the community. Primarily this initiative will focus on helping the community build its permaculture and animal husbandry practices as well as providing funds to purchase food stuffs when climate conditions limit the community’s ability to feed itself
A key part of this initiative is to support the permaculture work in the community. Permaculture is the guiding principle the community is using in building its food security. Permaculture, by its very nature, is a cyclical system that includes livestock and other living organisms, gardens, water management, boundary fencing to limit access to gardens of both domestic and wild animals, use of technologies and related community training, education and labour.
As well, because of the ongoing drought in East Africa, there will be, from time to time, the need to support the purchase of food stock to ensure children and families have sustenance when garden outputs are limited because of excessive heat and/or lack of water.
