Community Power: Growing Food Security Update – January 2023

It’s January and thankfully the rains have come. The kids are back in school and there are lots of hands available for planting, weeding – and decorating!

Permaculture is a key strategy in the ongoing challenge of growing food security. Teaching everyone in the community how to plant and maintain crops is a critical step. The gardens – as well as helping feed the community – are also a place to relax and enjoy nature.

The students, teachers and gardeners are planting crops in the big field by the dam.

Students from Class Two to Class Seven are weeding in the shamba by the school.

And we were delighted to have some high school girls help us decorate the gardens with painted rocks along the path. Gardens should be fun!
