Manufacture of HICSEB (Hollow Interlocking Stabilized Earth Blocks) building materials cannot be done during wet weather, so the past few rainy season months have been devoted to planning materials supply and design issues for the first earthquake-proof house. As the longer term plan is to build houses in Nyamuhunga village, meetings have been held with residents to familiarize them with this new block manufacture and construction technology.
Students at the Kagondo Trade school, along with some residents from Nyamuhunga, will provide the labour for block manufacture over the summer and construction of the first house using local tradesmen will follow soon thereafter. A video record of block manufacture and house construction will be made.
Lessons learned from construction of the first house at the Kagondo trade school campus will expedite subsequent implementation in the village of Nyamuhunga.
