Hello friends,
Things are tough in Kenya. Schools closed across the nation. They open January 2021.
All the students in Kenya will lose 1 year. The schools will need to buy masks and sanitizers. These extra costs are a strain on tight budgets.
Our 14 Pokot girls are all at home until school re-starts. There was a huge flood in August and it washed a bridge out. This bridge was a main access to the region.
The villagers piled rocks downriver to create access to the area.
Our school sponsorship support covers food for the students. An extra $3,000 was donated to ICO. With that donation we got a huge load of food and supplies (3 truckloads!) to the girls. This will tide them over until the bridge is rebuilt.
This food relief brought so much joy to the students.
One of our students, Nahashon Mburu, is studying at Embu University to be a lawyer. Before he was introduced to ICO, he had almost given up. (Nahashon was abandoned at age 12 and was living with an aunt in dire circumstances). He works so hard, and is getting excellent marks, at the top of his class.
Nahashon is thrilled that classes started online this month. He takes up to 9 hours of classes each day on Zoom. We are bursting with pride for Nahashon.
Another student, Winfred Gaichugi, is eagerly awaiting school to start. In the meantime, she is staying at a spiritual centre and helping the ICO farm manager, Joash, with the permaculture.
For our other sponsored children we have been sending food as well. The children are missing school and eager to get back in January!
