Women’s reproductive and menstrual health is a big topic of conversation these days in the boma. The Community Health Committee has formed a group, including Sokoita and Neema, to develop a plan to gather information from mamas, girls, teachers, birth attendants and pregnant mamas. They are expecting to learn about what needs the women and girls have and how they would like support. Top of the list, they anticipate, will be regular workshops to explain women’s menstrual cycles, their relationship to pregnancy, and bodily care during that time of the month. The women and girls are super keen to have access to reusable kits as well. The Health Committee is working with ICO volunteers in Canada to secure funding for kit manufacturing.
