School began again in early September. There are now just over 300 children registered at Nashipay Maasai Pre and Primary School. Nine years ago there were 20! By any standard, this is a remarkable success for the community. It takes great courage and commitment for parents to send their children to school. Traditionally they would be at home tending livestock and doing chores.
And as you can see in the video below, the kids are SUPER excited to be at school. Here you see Teacher Andreas coaching the younger kids through a series of exercises … to get the wiggles out before class.
Each morning they gather in the parade grounds. An older student will guide everyone in singing the school song “I am Proud of My School” and the National Anthem.
