Equipment to manufacture CSEB (Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks) has been shipped from India and released by Tanzanian customs in Dar es Salaam. Delays in Dar port were significant due to COVID-19 issues. Delivery to Bukoba is expected during the summer and the first earthquake – proof home will then be constructed.
Detailed discussions during the fall 2019 visit confirmed there will be a significant learning curve for Kolping staff, local tradesmen and Nyamuhunga villagers. Both methods of manufacture of CSEB building materials and construction techniques for the houses will be new. Thus it was decided the first structure would be built on the grounds of the KST trade school, where the project leader, Salvatory Kahwa, is a professor. Once staff are confident with the new techniques, we will move into the village of Nyamuhunga for subsequent construction.
