'AT HOME'

The Children's Art Mural Project
The 'At Home' Children's Art Mural Project emerged when Paulina Eguiguren, a local artist, was approached to help out with an art exhibit to help raise funds for our co-operative. The art exhibit was transformed by Paulina into a children's art project, allowing our children to communicate their notion of the meaning of 'Home'.
Why a Children's Art Mural Project, why a puzzle?
"To bring awareness of home. Children are the roots of our society. Their feelings and expressions are an unbiased view of who we are and the ideals we have. Constructing a puzzle piece was conceptualized because I wanted to emphasize the analogy of community. In a community, people, all different, but essentially all equal contribute to the whole. Just like in a puzzle, one piece missing or neglected, is enough to bring chaos to all." -Paulina Eguiguren
We are seeking sponsorships of each piece to contribute towards our capital fund. Each puzzle piece can be sponsored starting at $250.00. All sponsors names will be displayed with the mural on a recognition plaque along with the description of the mural and the artists. All proceeds will go toward purchasing, affordable, sustainable housing.

'At Home' is currently awaiting a new home. We are looking for a community space to proudly display this mural. Please let us know if you have or know of a space that would like to host the mural.
We would like to thank the YW/YMCA and the Out of School Program for providing us with both the children and the space to create this mural! Special thanks to John Laidlaw and Bobby Arbess for preparing the pieces, and to Andrea Clark for coordinating this effort. And last but not least, a thank-you to the City of Victoria for their financial support of this project and for displaying the mural. |
